    Larry Bortstein ’94 was the subject of an extensive profile in Corporate Counsel, which traced his path from Lehman Brothers in its darkest hour to his own highly successful firm today. At the time of the financial services giant’s collapse, Bortstein served as a senior in-house attorney and global head of Lehman’s Technology Law group. Then, in the wake of the financial crisis of 2008, he and thousands of other employees were at risk of losing their jobs.

    Five federal judicial nominees appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 23. Of the five nominees, two were Brooklyn Law School graduates: Nelson S. Román ’89, who was nominated by President Barack Obama to a seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and Professor Claire R. Kelly ‘93, who was nominated by the President to the Court of International Trade. “We are extraordinarily proud of the accomplishments of these two distinguished graduates. They embody the best of Brooklyn Law School,” said Dean Nick Allard. “When they are confirmed, as we expect, they will join the long line of BLS graduates who have served and are serving the nation on the bench,” he added. Other nominees included Analisa Torres for the Southern District of New York; Raymond Moore for the District of Colorado; and Derrick Watson for the District of Hawaii.
