12.18.13 Barry Salzberg ’77 Named 2014 Commencement Speaker; Ceremony to be Held at BAM
    Barry Salzberg

Brooklyn Law School is pleased to announce that Barry Salzberg ’77, Chief Executive Officer, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), will deliver the 2014 Commencement address on May 28. This year also marks a return to Brooklyn, with the ceremony taking place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Salzberg has long been among the Law School’s most active champions. In addition to establishing two scholarships, he played a central role in the development of Business Boot Camp, the innovative BLS course modeled, in part, on training that Deloitte provided to first-year associates at major law firms. BLS’s program was created in direct response to today’s changing legal, business, and global economic landscape, and the Law School has benefited immeasurably from Salzberg’s expertise, stature, and friendship.

In recognition of Salzberg’s dedication to BLS, he was honored in 2011 at the inaugural Robert B. Catell Awards Dinner for Civic Leadership.

As CEO for DTTL, Salzberg sets the strategic direction for Deloitte’s global network of member firms. The largest private professional services organization in the world, Deloitte operates in 150 countries and has more than 200,000 employees worldwide.

Prior to becoming Global CEO, Salzberg built an impressive record through a variety of leadership roles over the course of his nearly 36-year career with Deloitte. Most recently, he served as CEO of Deloitte in the U.S. from 2007 to 2011, and as U.S. Managing Partner from 2003 to 2007.

Beyond his professional achievements, Salzberg is widely recognized as a humanitarian. Born and raised in Brooklyn, his philanthropic interests have focused largely on education and diversity, building opportunities for tomorrow’s leaders in the workplace. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of College Summit, a national non-profit dedicated to increasing college enrollment rates among students in low-income communities nationwide. Salzberg is also Chairman of the United Way Worldwide Board of Trustees and Chair Emeritus of the YMCA of Greater New York.

Additionally, he is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and New York County Lawyers’ Association, and is involved with various other business and philanthropic organizations.

“I know that Barry will be a tremendous inspiration to our graduating students and their families in May,” said Dean Nick Allard. “That we will celebrate at BAM, one of Brooklyn’s most dazzling venues, only enhances an extraordinary occasion.”
