Stan Wilcox ’88 was recently named Athletic Director at Florida State University, becoming the first African American and the 15th person in the school’s history to hold the title. A former basketball star at Notre Dame, Wilcox worked for his alma mater, the Big East Conference, and the NCAA before joining Duke University as Senior Deputy Athletic Director in 2008. He was also President of the Black Coaches Association from 2003 to 2005 and spent 11 years on the organization’s board of directors. “I liked him the minute I met him,” said FSU President Eric Barron at a news conference to announce Wilcox’s hiring. “He just has one of those personalities that tell you that you should be comfortable about the future … I strongly believe that Stan is the perfect person for Florida State University.”

Wilcox is one of several Brooklyn Law School alumni holding high-profile positions in the sports world, including Jeff Gewirtz ’94, Executive Vice President of Business Affairs and Chief Legal Officer for the Brooklyn Nets/Barclays Center, and Lonn Trost ’71, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for the New York Yankees.
