04.18.13 Dennis Brown ’83 Tapped to Head Suffolk County Attorney's Office
    Dennis Brown

Dennis Brown ’83 has been appointed head of the Suffolk County Attorney’s Office. Brown assumed the County Attorney position in early March and his appointment was approved by the County Legislature shortly thereafter. Brown joined the Suffolk County Attorney’s Office in 2005 as Deputy Bureau Chief of General Litigation, and most recently served as Chief of the Municipal Law Bureau. His previous legal experience included 10 years in private practice in his own firm, where he specialized in tort defense and insurance coverage litigation. Prior to his solo career, he was an associate with several small firms in Suffolk County.

In his new role as County Attorney, Brown will supervise over 100 employees and an insurance risk department, as well as oversee litigation, tort claims and day-to-day operations in the County. Suffolk County encompasses the far eastern end of Long Island, NY, with a population of approximately 1.5 million people, a $2.6 billion dollar operating budget, and approximately 12,000 government employees. His challenge will be to distribute the limited resources of his department as efficiently as possible so that the Law Department can continue to meet its mission to deliver legal support to the elected officials and the agencies of Suffolk County government.

Brown speaks highly of his experience at Brooklyn Law School and encouraged students to seek their own successful careers by “making sure you work hard, always putting out your best product, practicing a little bit of ‘stick-with-it-ness,’ and always staying ambitious in wherever your career path leads.”
